At Mosan we believe that a safe sanitation is the most effective way to improve the quality of life and the health of people. Mosan's solution helps to protect the environment and avoids the pollution of water and the environment. Local economy and job opportunities can grow.
This is our credo.
MOSAN HOUSEHOLD TOILET
The Mosan Toilet is an award-winning in-home toilet, designed with the highest technical standards. Ease of use, durability, low maintenance and an aspirational design are important aspects. The design is the result of the participatory process with local communities and international partners such as MIT d.lab, ZHdK, and the GIZ.
- Clean separation of urine + feces into removable containers

COLLECTION & TRANSPORT
We provide Mosan customers with a regular collection service at many convenient stocking stations, located in all the areas covered by our service.
Users can dump their containers into special collection tanks, get a pair of freshly sanitized containers and forget about it! We take care of the transportation from the stocking stations to our treatment plant.
Human excreta contain organic matter, mainly fiber, micronutrients and minerals such as nitrogen, phosphorus, sulfur, that, once extracted, are immensely beneficial for agriculture and energy production.
We separately process urine and feces and transform what is commonly considered as waste into valuable products that can be reintroduced to the local and international market.
REUSE & SALE
The reuse of human excreta is the final step of the sanitation chain. As a result of our process, we obtain two products: biochar and struvite. Biochar has a variety of usages, e.g. as a soil amendment, for industrial use in filters or as fuel, while Struvite, a phosphorus mineral, can be directly applied in agriculture.
We pursue and promote awareness on water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in order to accelerate behavioral change and achieve a safe, dignified and sustainable sanitation for people in need. Our methods of conveying information are based on direct community involvement, workshops, on-field experimentation.
Our products are co-designed with local communities out of the real needs of people. We impulse innovation through Design Thinking – a process for creative problem solving – involving locals at different stages of the project, from the surveying of needs to the creation of a customized service to fit a specific reality.
